Why does it matter
In order for communities to work well community members need to engage and communicate with each other - especially across divides such as the generation gap or the 'digital gap'. 121digital provides genuine reasons for members to engage and it brings young adults together with middle-aged and senior adults using digital skills as the 'glue' - the young adults have digital skills and are equipped to help Learners to overcome their fear of technology.
How it started
Fintan Mulligan (founder of 121digital) worked for 30 years in computer software for banking and the mobile phone sector. Ten years ago he ran mobile phone lessons in schools in Bray and Cabinteely for adults. He is passionate about helping people use their digital device to the level of their own ability for their communication, safety, security and convenience. He started 121digital six years ago in order to help adults in his local community and he quickly discovered an ongoing and wider demand for lessons. 121digital started as an initiative to get young people working with the older members of our Ashford Community Group, in Fintan's home village of Ashford, Co Wicklow and has since spread to eleven counties in Ireland.
