Our 6th classes absolutely loved the workshops with Suzanne. The hour flew by every week and every lesson was so hands on and engaging. The children really enjoyed creating the plant and animal cells using Marla, growing seeds in a bag and finishing the skeleton pictures.
We would really recommend other classes getting involved in this initiative. We have kept all the leftovers from the box and hopefully we can top them up for other classes who wish to get involved.
The level of knowledge and expertise that Suzanne had was a fantastic addition to our science education and one which the children could enjoy with a scientist.
Update from 6th Class in Room 9.
We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in STEAM in a Box and each week the activities were really engaging and enjoyable. Some of our favourite activities included; making the cells using marla, growing the beans in the bag and drawing the rest of the skeleton.
We would really recommend other schools to get involved and have kept the leftover resources for other classes to add to.
STEAM is an area of focus for our school, in terms of school improvement. We are always looking for new initiatives to boost the students interest and motivation in this area. Following our team meeting this morning, it was decided that our STEAM in a Box project will take place with a 6th class group in our school (29 students). We plan to run the programme in January 2023, with a scientist visiting our school to deliver the five sessions with the class. We will review the project after the five sessions and then make a decision on how best to spend the funding received.
