A course of workshops that, through games and playfulness, works to reconnect children with nature
The proposal is based on the experiences of CoCriança, an interdisciplinary civil society organization founded by women that combines architecture and education in participatory processes of urban intervention and awareness, with special emphasis on childhood. Working mainly in vulnerable territories, we seek to strengthen citizenship and co-create innovative and sustainable solutions for cities, based on children's experiences, desires and needs. We have existed since 2017 to co-create new world possibilities that value childhood. Using our own methodology and already applied in several instances, we work on the links between children, spaces and communities, promoting contact with nature and the feeling of belonging to the environment. By providing a concrete learning situation, we intervene in reality, empowering children to fully participate and exercise their rights: to nature, to play, to today. In a contemporary context of multiple crises, where children are increasingly confined, it is urgent to reconnect them to nature and the world around them. It is necessary to be outdoors, touch the earth, experience the cycles of nature, in order to provide healthy childhoods, integrated into the environment and belonging to the world they inhabit. The Sustainability for Children proposal is born from this desire and urgency.
