How to make a cloche – GIY Tramore April meeting
We are approaching that time a year when delicate little seedlings are transplanted from the warmth and safety of the kitchen windowsill or potting shed to the big bad world of the garden outside. To make that transition easier and give them extra protection against pests and late frosts, a cloche is an ideal tool. It is, basically, a mini greenhouse and can be easily made to any scale from a variety of simple materials. A plastic bottle with the bottom cut out and set over a single plant is, in effect, a type of cloche.
At our April GIY meeting, Norman Wiseman from New Ross GIY will give a demonstration of how to make simple cloches. Norman ran an allotment in the UK for 15 years before retiring and taking up a small property on the Hook where he started to develop a vegetable garden in 2015. He now grows fruit and veg, supplying the country market in Fethard-on-Sea, is active in New Ross GIY and is currently setting up a community garden in Wellingtonbridge
