We have involved 2 of the local schools in our water testing of the Lickey River and the Greagagh river. The Ballycuran National school have adopted a section of the Lickey river and under the leadership of principal Kevin Gough they will be taking and uploading samples quarterly.
The Clashmore National school has also been involved with testing of the Greagagh river in Clashmore. In the pictures a group of children from Ballycuran National school can be seen with myself Richard Casey, and the second photo shows teachers from Clashmore National school as well as my wife Glynnis Casey who accompanied the children on our water testing.
The enthusiasm and interest shown by the children is very encouraging and we hope to spread the initiative further in the area.
Timeline: We are planning to have our first training session on the 28th February with Fresh Water Watch and receive our kits soon after.
Budget: We hope to buy some tee shirts and badges to give to the school children taking part.
Impact: Our plan is to involve the three local primary schools with their neighbouring rivers. We also have a Youth Club in the area so we if we can get all 4 groups involved we would be very pleased.
Location: We are going to use the neighbouring rivers which are freely accessible.
