Biodynamic growing is an approach to plant cultivation which works closely in harmony with natural cycles such as the phases of the moon. The planting calendar, which indicates the optimum time for sowing, transplanting and harvesting, is the basis for biodynamic planting, which preserves ecological balance, ground fertility, as well as plant, animal and human health. In the light of the recent shocking WWF report on species decline, it’s appropriate for us to consider any approach that aims make our world more sustainable.
Tobias Pedersen of the Biodynamic Agricultural Association of Ireland will give a talk to Tramore GIY on Wednesday, 5th December at 7.30pm in Ocean View House, Tramore.
It's topic that rouses a certain amount of scepticism in some gardeners but, having tried planning my sowing and planting based on the Maria Thun calendar for a number of years, I am totally convinced that it made a difference to rates of germination and general health of the plants.
Come along and be prepared for a fascinating talk, followed by a lively debate on the merits of biodynamic growing.
