What is it?
CyberSafeIreland empowers children, parents and teachers to navigate the online world in a stronger, smarter and safer way. This is done through the delivery of educational programmes to children, but also through raising awareness amongst parents, teachers and the wider public.
As children access technology at an increasingly young age, where there isn't sufficient guidance, monitoring and support in place they can become vulnerable to a range of risks. Cyber Safe Ireland workshops focus on children aged 8 - 13, when they are often first starting to use technology and accessing online content independently. We also engage parents, schools and policy-makers as they are a key part of any solution.
We gather data on an ongoing basis as this allows us to map trends and usage as well as to highlight risks and we publish our findings once a year in our annual report.
We also advocate for strong policies and strategies for dealing with online safety at the national level.
How can you get involved?
As a teacher, you can register for a workshop and one of our trained tutors will come to your school and deliver an interactive tailored workshop based on your school's needs. Workshops take place over the course of a school morning with 30 minutes for 3rd class and generally 55 minutes for 4th, 5th and 6th class. We also provide schools and teachers with resources both for children and parents on safer technology use.
In- school workshops are currently available in the following counties: Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, Westmeath, Louth, Longford, Clare, Cavan, Limerick, Tipperary and Cork.
We will be adding more trainers in different parts of the country over the coming months.
