The group has not been eating the food that we are growing YET. The vegetables have not grown big enough to eat. Due to the weather this year we started planting the squash, pumpkin, and lettuce late in the "fall". We also have planting a bed of flowers that attract the monarch butterflies that are very important in pollination. Their existence is also being endangered. Our schoolyard garden was also recognized by the National Wildlife Federation as a certified Schoolyard Habitat for its commitment to sustainably provide the essential elements of wildlife habitat and provide students a place to learn outdoors and connect with nature. We plan on planting again in January. Our National Junior Honor Society has taken on the day to day maintenance, such as cleaning and watering. We have more planters ready and our school community is eager to continue. We also have permission to citrus trees which grow very well in our Phoenix climate.

This project has become a huge success!! The students are taking pride in their school and community. The squash was able to be distributed but we need to plant more due to the hot climate months. Thanks to all that are participating!!!
Hamilton Harvest will plan, plant, maintain, and harvest a sustainable vegetable garden. We will educate and distribute what we reap among Hamilton Elementary School, staff and surrounding communities. We hope we will all benefit from this project and have fun while working on it. More to come...
