The project was one of a kind, we did not understand the need for books and storytelling until we started with this project. We activated the reading program at local clinics with new mothers with infants, teaching them the importance of telling stories, then we went to 9 Child development centers as we targeted children between 0 -5 years old.
We donated 1001 books, and more was demanded thanks to Bookdash ebooks we started sharing their link for the parents to download their favorite books.
Timeline: When will you be able to start your project? As soon as we get allocated funding, story telling and reading is the core of why we started Ezamazwe Education Centre for Innovation, we make quality reading resources available in rural communities to encourage reading in home language. How often will your team meet? Depending on the scope of the project, we usually meet weekly. Are there any key dates to share for the project? October is a perfect month, so that we have the books ready for the kids to start reading during the schools holidays.
Budget: You don't need to share exact prices, but please share how you're planning to spend the seed funding & what costs you're anticipating to get your project up and running: We hope that our meeting with the bookDash team will give us an idea.
Impact: How will your community benefit from this project? Definitely they will benefit, reading is a need here, and finding quality books is costly, our reading champions will be donating books to children in ECD's and care givers, reading activations in local clinics, taxi ranks and shopping malls. we want to make sure children get introduced to reading and storytelling very early before they start grade 4, age from 0 to 9 is very critical to the development of a child's mind. . Do you have any measurable goals for your project, such as the number of people that will participate? Are you hoping to spread knowledge or increase interest in a specific subject? We have book clubs with child minders, ecd's and primary schools, this is definately going to boost everyone.
Location: If your project requires physical space, have you decided the location? Do you have all necessary permission and permits to carry out your project at the chosen location? Ezamazwe Education Centre for Innovation.
