Sambusa Sunday events are community gatherings that bring people of all backgrounds together, to build bridges and to overcome division. People come together to eat Somali Sambusas and drink Chai Tea in a public space that welcomes conversations and relationship building with the Somali/Muslim communities.
At a time when divisive talk and actions are all too prevalent in our communities, Sambusa Sunday provides a simple way for communities to come together, to show support and gratitude for each other and to bridge divides. The gatherings address the expressed need people in Minnesota and nationwide have right now to connect and communicate with each other for the purpose of building and strengthening community relationships with the Somali and Muslim community. These are not rallies and there are no big speeches. It's just about bringing neighbors together—some Somali and some not—and letting all of us know we stand together.
The gatherings can be any size, everything from a small group of neighbors coming together to a large community-wide event. Gatherings of all sizes have taken place across the state of Minnesota and they can happen indoors or outdoors. Find out what's involved in organizing a Sambusa Sunday event in our [5 Step Guide]
