Welcome to the Loughrea and Craughwell Chapter of Grow Remote. This chapter caters for Loughrea and the surrounding areas.
Welcome to Grow Remote on ChangeX! We're building a national movement to connect remote workers in Ireland. We believe we’re in the middle of a seismic change in ways of working that opens up a whole new opportunity for a better quality of life, for remote workers and for rural Ireland. We'll help you do this in your local community by starting a Grow Remote Chapter.

Hello All, I hope you are all well into relaxation mode on this Saturday evening. I wanted to drop by and say hello - My name is Ciara Gordon and Helena has just passed the baton of Chapter Lead to me in what really is a relay race of Championing Remote Work in Loughrea!
So a little about me and what I would like to bring as a chapter lead in our local community. I am actively working to increase Loughreas appeal as a place to work and live. This is something I have worked on in regards to having an innovation space in the Town Hall. This is just part of the vision and there are many more people ready to contribute to this shared vision that Loughrea can be a great place to choose to live a quality life both working remotely or in our rural community. I will champion the promotion of Grow Remote in my role with the local Chamber and other local community groups.
Just to go a little more personal. I went from (1) city living & working to (2) rural living and city working (3) to rural working & living. As I moved from 1 - 3 I noticed a drop in the type of facilities were available to me. On the plus side I could do the school runs and walk the dog rather than spend 2 hours commuting. But what I missed was popping to events of interest and finding a network in my new surrounds. Don't get me wrong I have great people around me but I had to really seek them. Now I am setting up to be fully remote this is even more important.
In essence my contribution to the wider goal of Grow Remote is: I will raise the bar on what the community has to offer those that want or need to choose Remote Work here in Loughrea.
A few actions I am preparing:
An event to be announced soon - a virtual one
A Facebook Group to reach a wider audience
Building a team of us to promote remote working together
So now over to everyone else....what do you need from your community to make remote working better, sustainable and fun!
Thank you
Ciara
Hi Ciara, thank you for the initiative. My transition from city living and working to rural living with commute to rural living without commute is similar to yours. While I have a useful setup at home to perform my work remotely, it would be great to have a co-working space with good internet connection nearby. If like-minded folks show interest, I believe that a community might emerge from that. Let me know if and how I can be of help in supporting you to grow Grow Remote around Loughrea/Craughwell. Kind regards, Alex
Hi Ciara Thanks for the update, and the introduction. I think that having an 'Innovation Hub' of sorts at the new Town Hall will be superb. Also, a small space could be used to create remote 'office space' as well. This could be done to encourage people that would like to work remotely, but not from home. In light of the lessons we have learned from Covid-19, I think that so many more people, and companies are seeing that remote working is the way to go. Yet people have battled to work from home, particularly those with younger children. Creating a space where remote workers can work, or even hold a small meeting will be superb. I am not employed at the moment (sadly) , so if you need any help, please just shout, I am always willing to give a hand. I was previously a Research and Innovation consultant, and I owned and ran a multi-award winning company in South Africa, prior to moving to Ireland. So I am sure that I can lend a hand somehow. Regards Ruth

Hi all,
Great to see that Grow Remote has generated some interest in Craughwell. I’m definitely interested, at least for a few days a week and maybe more.
How can I contribute?
Alex
Hi all,
It's been too long since we had any updates in this group! Some great news in this week about the Town Hall renovation and the creation of a Digital Hub with coworking spaces.
How many of us would use a space like this?
Hi Colm, It's so brilliant. I too would use it occasionally (I work from home 2 days a week) as it's so nice to get out and meet others and it also helps ideas and collaborations to grow. Let's hope the space will be available to rent/let at very reasonable rates if not for free. Fingers crossed!
Hi Helena, its great news indeed. Even though I have good broadband at home in my office I would definitely use this space. Colm

Hi Anne,
It’s definitely something I would be interested in. I wouldn’t personally be interested in going to ballybrit or the city as the traffic is terrible. Something in Loughrea / Athenry/ Craughwell would be perfect. The town centre in Craughwell with the coffee shop etc has a nice buzz about it and could be an ideal
Place.
Hi, I might also be interested as I did this when living in Leitrim. I found it better than working from home. My problem is I spend a lot of time on TCs that need confidentiality. Lisa
Hi Joe, thanks for that, and apologies I hadn't responded to your earlier comment, summer time and sunshine kicked in! Much appreciated Colm
Hi Colm. If loughrea suits give me a shout. Office is near Chanelle.
HI All, I am new to grow remote. I am based in London and San Francisco. I have had enough of big city living and rents and want to move my business to Galway where I am from. I am thinking about starting a co-working space in Craughwell. 10 desks max. Am I crazy? It wouldn't be to make a load of money. It would be to cover its costs and to give me the office space that i want!
So am I crazy - are there 6 or7 others who would pay 200 a month for desk space in a cool office environment in the village. Is it safer to move to Ballybrit/ Galway city??
Hi Anne and all! Welcome to the Grow Remote group. You are in the right place for putting feelers out for a co-working space. I myself was looking into that possibility earlier in the year but it's no longer something I need. I did however make a few enquiries around Craughwell regarding spaces so we should chat Anne. I can PM you my number.
Hi Joe. Happy to discuss. let me have your details and we can discuss. I will be living in Kilcolgan so its a bit of a schlep. I am also keen to develop my own space. It's more of a cost-covering exercise with like-minded people in cool space. but I'm not up for a load of cost risk. Would love to know how you have found it setting up space in a remote(ish) location. A
Hi Anne. I've space in Loughrea if suits?
Hi all, does anyone know someone who could help out with admin work for a few hours a week? Near Craughwell.
Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone knows of a Co working space in the Craughwell/Loughrea are that work on a daily rate ? Thanks in advance.
Colm
Hi Colm, welcome to the group! Joe is the right contact for now. I am also submitting a letter to state the need for a council-supported coworking space on behalf of our chapter. I will be organising a meet up for this group in September, hope you can join.
Hi Colm. Might be able to help. Can you give me a call 087 274 5093 or email [email protected]. thanks,
