Do you want to help students in your school recycle right AND save your school money? The Recycle Across America Schools Program is the program for you! Recycling is one of the most important actions society can take to simultaneously help the environment, the economy, manufacturing and to prevent waste from going into oceans -- but recycling doesn't work if society is confused at the bin. Currently, recycling is in a serious crisis, and the main reason is contamination. People want to recycle right but they are confused with the mixed messaging presented at recycling bins in various communities and settings. This confusion leads people to throw garbage in with the recycling -- causing contamination of materials that could have been remanufactured. The society-wide standardized labelling system helps to eliminate the public confusion surrounding recycling and to improve the economics of closed-loop manufacturing. Schools are an important part of the recycling solution and here you can find all you need to start a successful school recycling program.
School districts that have adopted this standardized labeling system have increased recycling rates by as much as 50-240% and saved significant money in trash hauling fees. Your school can order standardized labels and access lesson ideas and a comprehensive toolkit that will help you roll out the program. Get started today!

Students were able to able to research statistics to share with our school about the importance of recycling the correct way. Green Team students created videos to share with our school about the importance of recycling as well as how to recycle correctly which our school was struggling with. We were excited to provide bilingual labels for our recycling bins as well as Spanish in our Green Team videos. We are planning a challenge next to see what classroom can recycle the most in the correct way.
Green Team was invited to the Board of Education meeting to share what we did with our grant in our school and how we are educating students and staff to recycle the right way.
Our school and district will benefit from this funding. We will be a pilot school for improving the state of recycling in our district. Currently many of the schools do not have a solid recycling program so we have lots of room to improve. We are in contact with the village and their staff for recycling guidelines as well as our need for new bins. We have a meeting scheduled with the head of grounds in the district to discuss how other schools recycle in their buildings. We will be using the seed money to buy appropriate bins to use to recycle. We will also be using the supplies for our "Green Team" club which will be spearheading this challenge with the staff. We will be completing activities to really demonstrate with the students the importance of recycling. We are hoping to get in a guest speaker from the village.
