2 Pods have been built, 1 for watermelon, and 1 for bell peppers. Both Pods have produced product that has been given to community members in need!
The land has been purchased for the Pod. The Pod will be located on the Westside of Chicago off 15 Ave. and Keeler. There will be a fence built around the perimeter of the space. There will be a total of 5 garden beds that will be placed in the Pod. We are still discussing the fruits and vegetables that will be grown and cultivated in the Pod.
We discussed implementing the Pod Project at a school that we work with on the west side of Chicago. The location is located in the Austin neighborhood, and has traditionally been known as being a food desert. The project will consist of 2 adults and 10 youth working to build and cultivate the project. It is expected that project is to be completed by the end of August. This Pod will be able to not only directly serve the youth enrolled in the program, but distribution of produce will be able to also benefit community residents in need. Funding will be spent on soil, seeds, and garden bed materials. There was discussion of implementing a small fence to surround the Pod, but that will be discussed further at the next meeting on May 1st.
