Tales Toolkit

Kate started Tales Toolkit while working in schools with high levels of deprivation. Children came into school with low levels of language, lacking confidence with many lacking play opportunities at home. Kate saw the huge pressure put on teachers with tests, targets, and paperwork; she worried that play was being squeezed out and could see how disheartened teachers were becoming.

While teaching Kate created a simple, open-ended storytelling framework and worked with the children, developing it into something to use with every child whatever their need. When she saw the huge difference it was making she decided to give up her job to help bring this to others.

Kate was super passionate about play opportunities for children. Supporting teachers to tick the boxes while also ensuring time for the things that can’t always be measured - confidence, creativity, resilience, problem solving etc. The things that really make a difference for our children's future.

And winning the Teach First award in 2015 provided funding, mentors and the push to get things moving. Built with a focus on impact measurement, support from top experts, current research and a family of inspirational practitioners we’re excited to work with ChangeX on the next chapter.
