The aim of Pollinator Plan Juniors is to enable students to help our pollinating insects that are struggling to find food and are declining in numbers. The health of our pollinators is crucial to ensure the sustainability of our food, avoid additional economic impacts on agriculture, and protect the health of the environment. Through the Pollinator Plan Juniors, students can learn about our pollinators, why they’re important, and what they need to survive. The programme includes many resources and lesson plans for classes that offer students a constructive way to help the planet and ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and learn about growing and gardening.

Our pollinator garden has been planted by each of the children in our school and some additional parents who could help. The school community has also delegated the upkeep and maintenance of this area. The senior room has been on watering and weeding duty for the last month.
We have been very busy completing our pollinator survey. The most suitable areas for planting have been identified and the whole school has been involved in choosing the most suitable flowers. During the months of May and June these areas have been planted by all classes.
We hope to add some extensive wildflower areas to our school and to increase an awareness among the children of the importance of pollinators on a global scale.
In relation to Covid-19, our committee will be made up of students from 2nd and 3rd class who share a classroom. We will report to other classes remotely.
We hope that by raising awareness of the environment and the importance of pollination, children will be encouraged to become environmentally conscious students.
