This is all about doing less… less consumption, less waste, less straws, it’s a win, win! By spreading the word every time you ask for “no straw” wherever straws are served, and by requesting that restaurants & bars only serve straws upon request, you will help save the planet from single use plastic pollution one straw at a time. Little things do matter. Tell us about your “Last Plastic Straw Moment”…hopefully it’s today!

🙏 Another great local business, https://www.drunkenbeancafe.com/ , has joined our global movement The Last Plastic Straw!
The Drunken Bean is a friendly neighborhood coffee and wine bar where the locals can get their morning coffee and breakfast and in the evening it transforms into a bar which can host local events / performing artists.
Check this place out, #skiptheplasticstraw and don’t forget to ask about their home baked goodies!
🎯 Great beginning of the month for our project!
It’s wonderful to see https://www.buenachicago.com/ join The Last Plastic Straw campaign in Chicago 🤝. Benjamin, the owner, was very friendly and immediately decided to participate in our movement and put our table signs to raise awareness of plastic pollution. Now they are making the transition from plastic to hay straws.
Check out this family owned and one of the best places to get authentic Mexican food in the city. The Ramirez family personally oversees all activities in the restaurant, from serving to cooking!

We are welcoming another business to our The Last Plastic Straw Chicago campaign! Kim and her team at Friar Tuck love animals and do not want them to suffer from plastic pollution -- they decided to discontinue the use and purchase of plastic straws and are now in transition to paper straws. That will be a reduction of 4-5 million plastic straws per year, according to Kim! Check this place out. This authentic bar has been serving the Lakeview neighborhood since 1970; it is famous for its welcoming atmosphere and Trivia nights. Support the businesses that are making the difference!
The Crepe Shop kicks off, as the first to join The Last Plastic Straw Chicago campaign 🏆🙏🏻
Brothers and owners, Marius and Peter Toader have already started giving out plastic straws only upon request and now they are looking for green alternatives to the Plastic Straw!
Check out this place in the heart of East Lakeview and try their absolutely delicious crepes and specialty coffee💙

It's been a great week for The Last Plastic Straw Chicago! A few businesses are interested to join The Last Plastic Straw movement and the first Pledge has been signed 👍 Stay tuned for more to come!
July 31th
Great and productive evening for the Last Plastic Straw Chicago team. A lot of businesses are interested if not to completely eliminate plastic straws then to at least provide them upon request or use biodegradable hay/paper straws.
July 17th.
This was our first attempt to interact with Chicago restaurants and bars with the proposition to either provide plastic straws only upon request or completely eliminate plastic straws and replace them with paper or hay straws provided upon request. Unfortunately many managers/ owners were not on site at the time of our visit. We asked about their schedule to come back later. Some of the managers that we had a chance to talk to were interested to give it a try and start testing different options like paper straws and straw-less lids before taking the pledge. We will follow up with them.
Join us to work in partnership with local business to eliminate the wasteful and unnecessary use of plastic straws!
We did it! We had a kick-off meeting yesterday
Our plan:
1. Make posts about our campaign and our commitments on Facebook and Instagram with hashtags: #NoPlasticStraws, #PlasticPollutes and our hashtag #NoPlasticStrawsChicago
2. Make a list of bars and restaurants that give out straws without request in Chicago, starting with places in our neighborhoods. (Google Sheet)
3. Print 100 pledge forms, 100 flyers (PlasticFreeJuly.pdf) several info cards, tabletents and flyers demonstrating the plastic problem.
4. Start talking to bars and restaurants next week.
5. Find an opportunity to arrange a community viewing of Straws ($89 or $145 - 20% discount for ChangeX communities)
Benefits to our community from our campaign:
1. reduction in plastic straw use --> less waste, less toxic chemicals, less harm to the animals and birds
2. behavioral change of people’s relationship to single use plastics
