Welcome to GIY! We are delighted to have you and your school join us on our mission to get people growing food and living healthier, happier, more sustainable lives. There are over 900,000 GIYers growing as much food as they can wherever they can and together we are addressing some critical global issues one GIYer at a time. Local Action leads to Global Impact and we can't wait to hear about the impact you, your teachers and your students are having through the simple act of food growing.

It's all go here in St. Oliver's garden! The raised beds are in, we have 5 in total. Our students have been out constructing and weeding, getting the beds ready for sowing! We hav sown broccoli, cauliflour and garlic so far, with seeds sown in our handy little propagator (see pictures). Next up will be cabbage, lettuce, beetroot, rhubarb and onions and carrots

We want to expand the existing garden. The current garden gives students and staff a chance to get out into nature and watch the fruits of their hard work grow. This gives students a real sense of achievement, to be able to physically produce something as a result of hard work.
Action Plan: we would like to construct more raised beds and plant more fruit and veg for the students to harvest themselves. These will include:
1-strawberries
2-carrots
3-potatoes
4-pumpkins to carve next Halloween
5-Construct and install a herb garden for our home economics classes to use
6-Sow, grow and harvest lettuce and radish next summer before summer break.
7-Propagate shrubs and plants from existing plants in the school garden to align with the Biology and Ag Science course.
8-Sow and grow wildflowers to attract pollinators.
9-install bird feeders with seeds and nuts to support wildlife during the winter months.
