Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology, and leading the movement to inspire, educate, and equip young women with the computing skills needed to pursue 21st-century opportunities.
GWC clubs can be hosted in-person or virtually. Clubs provide members with a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, and an opportunity to use their skills to positively impact their community. They are led by volunteer Facilitators, who use our free curriculum, prepared lesson plans, and other resources provided by GWC on our learning platform, HQ.

This project will begin in the fall of 2021. I will be doing this project with the 5th grade girls at my school. We will be meeting one day a week after school to go through the Girls Who Code curriculum. Once we have completed the Girls Who Code curriculum we will move on to programing Pro-Bots from Terrapin Logo. The Pro-Bots will be purchased with the grant money. Students will be meeting in my classroom that is already approved to have students meeting in it at desks placed 3 feet apart. Students will also be wearing masks and following COVID guidelines put in place at our school. Waiting till fall to hear exactly what those guidelines will be. As the STEAM teacher for my school I have seen a great need to inspire girls to find a love for computer science. I want to start this club to encourage the 5th graders at my building to pursue computer science as they go on to middle school!
