We work with local refugee resettlement group partners to identify newcomer families interesting in attending dinners. Additionally, some of our members that teach ESL courses or work with immigrant communities have also helped set up a few dinners. We are committed to matching one newcomer family and one family in our group. We believe a small intimate dinner provides the best opportunity for building meaningful and lasting relationships. Therefore we don't plan large community dinners or events. If you are interested in hosting a dinner, just let me know and I will add you to our host list. We usually host 3-4 dinners a month, and we have hosts for the next couple of months. Therefore, I can certainly make arrangements for hosting in July or August. Just let me know.
I am wondering the same thing. I think I am missing something. I am wondering how we would go about hosting a dinner. I see how to invite people I already know (FB friends, etc.) to this ChangeX group but not how to invite people we don't know to dinner. Help?
This past Sunday we had another opportunity to meet with Jonas, Diana, and the kids. We explored the Twin Cities and visited Como Zoo. It was a fun day filled with joy and laughter. We hope others will also be encouraged to continue building their friendships with newcomer families they host.
Thank you Susan Knopp for leading and organizing another round of host dinners this past weekend. Great pictures! It looked like a fun evening. We will be hosting another round of dinners the second weekend in April. I also strongly encourage others to initiate their our dinners. Please let me know if we can provide any support.
Given the high demand for hosting. We will have a new protocol for host families in our group. We are currently developing information and should be ready to post new protocols next week. We are truly grateful for all the encouragement and support from the Twin Cities community.

I wish I wish I wish I would had remembered to take a picture of the beautiful feast of food that Hiba made , an Iraqi meal for us this past Sunday when we went to visit her and Arshed. We were so honored to join them and their 2 cutest boys at their home to spend more time knowing them. I thank God for the opportunity. getting to know this beautiful family , is a gift. I think also a challenge as I don't feel sufficient in that , sometimes I think.. "will I ask the right questions to get to know them? the wrong question? not enough? too much? what if I say or do something wrong? What if they just plain don't like us.. Well.... I think it is worth it to take a step outside your comfort zone, to take a chance, open your heart, home , be a little vulnerable and take a chance to get a beautiful famly who ever that may be in your life. :) Myself and my kids have all been blessed and I hope Hiba and Arshed also feel this.. The authenic, organic, one on one connection time with real people who are different than you in culture, maybe age, or whatever else may really help you grow in a way you never imagined. This is beautiful. :)
