Greystones Family Resource Centre runs community development and family support programmes in the wider Greystones area in Co. Wicklow. We work with the community to provide senior’s groups, women’s groups, youth clubs, family days, summer projects, arts & crafts for children, Rainbows, and a wide range of community education classes, including art, computers, gardening, pilates and sewing.
Our family support services include running a low cost professional counselling service. We also provide one-to-one confidential information and support on a number of different issues, such as, social welfare rights and entitlements, housing rights and entitlements, accessing education and training domestic violence, elder abuse, bereavement, mental health, parenting issues, and substance abuse and addiction.
We have a community garden with in our centre now for the past 4 years and have successfully grown a range of organic fruit and veg in a very small area, plus pollination beds. Through this project we held events in other areas of the community to encourage community gardening with the help of our gardener Suzie Cahn. We developed another community garden in another part of the town and now the community members run this with out any help so success.
We are planing workshops on pollinators and how to make your garden more pollinator friendly. We have also done small workshops session with our children in our summer project and in the autumn we held an apple pressing event and also we have done workshops on what to do with your harvest.
