GIY Dundrum will meet for a coffee/tea at the main cafe in Airfield (at the entrance) on Saturday next, December 16th at 10.30. It won't be a formal meeting but a chance to catch up and wish everyone a Happy Christmas. Everyone welcome!
Hi everyone, I am involved with Young Friends of the Earth Ireland. This year we are oranising a tree planting effort as part of the 'Trees on the Land' campaign. This is an all Ireland campaign which aims to see as many native Irish trees planted on the 10th of February as possible. Trees can be planted on public or private land, in parks, allotments or gardens. They are baby whips. We will be ordering tree packs in the next couple of weeks, and we are looking for individuals or groups who would like to have some trees planted on their land. We would supply the trees and then arrange to visit with some volunteers on the day. It's a lovely way to get together and engage in a positive social and environmental action. If anyone is interested or has any questions, please e-mail me on [email protected] or call 086 865 2724.
Thanks,
Mícheál

The next meeting of Dundrum GIY will take place on Saturday November 18th at 10.30 in Airfield House. Conor Bracken, who is doing a PhD on soil, will be talking about the characteristics of soil that determine how well it can support plant growth and most he is going to give tips on how people can improve their soil to grow different plants. We will also have a Q&A session.
The next Dundrum GIY meeting will take place on Saturday October 21st at 10.30 in Airfield. We are delighted that Cian Fleetwood will be demonstrating his cider making techniques. Cian is happy to accept donations of apples to go into the mix!
As it is still harvest time, we also thought it would be nice if people brought along any jams, chutneys, pickles, preserves etc. that come from produce in their garden for people to taste. If you haven't any to share, maybe bring a recipe that you have tried successfully in the past. We will have some bread and crackers available on the morning.
