With 3 million miles of rivers in the United States, many of us live within a mile of a river or stream. Unfortunately, each year millions of tons of trash end up in our nation's rivers. Trash is more than just an eyesore. It's harmful to wildlife and contaminates rivers, which provide 60 percent of our drinking water. Join American Rivers' National River Cleanup® to help our waters clean and healthy for people and wildlife. National River Cleanup® provides guidance and support like free trash bags, to anyone interested in hosting a cleanup for their local river.
This particular cleanup will focus on the Angelina and Neches Rivers located within a few miles of Jasper, TX. In this area, eco-tourism (bass fishing) is a big part of the local industry. Tourists, unforturnately, bring trash with them and often discard it on the boat ramps leading to the rivers. May is one of those months when it isn't too hot in Texas, making it a busy time for eco-tourism. So, in May we plan to focus our cleanup efforts on multiple boat ramps, in hopes to catch the trash before it washes away into the river.
