To address our April GIY Tramore meeting, we are delighted to welcome award winning journalist and food writer, Russ Parsons.
Now living in Waterford, Russ has spent the last 30 years exploring complex questions around food and food production, first as food editor and columnist for the Los Angeles Times for more than 25 years, and for the last three years as a monthly columnist with the Irish Times. He has researched topics such as how to grow enough food so that good quality fruits and vegetables are available and affordable, while at the same time protecting the environment, and also how to eat seasonally and locally.
He has written two books. The first, “How to Read a French Fry,” focuses on using simple science to explain how cooking works. The second, “How to Pick a Peach”, looks at how farmers’ markets and the small farm movement revolutionized supermarket shopping in America and beyond. For his reporting, he has won many major journalism awards and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of food and wine. He was also named Small Farm Supporter of the Year.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 18th April at 7.30pm in Tramore Library (please note the change of venue). We would encourage you to invite along family and friends to what promises to be an entertaining and informative evening.
