Hi everyone,
Hope you're having a nice long weekend.
I'm doing some research into community garden and allotments technology. I currently supply schools and Men's Sheds with soil and weather sensors but I'd be really interested in meeting and hearing from allotment holders. I live local so happy to meet and grab a coffee on me (or virtually on Zoom!).
Best,
C

Hi Ciara We don't have a community garden or allotments. We meet to discuss gardening and GIY. We sometimes have talks from experts on various aspects of gardening. If you would like to come and talk to us about your sensors, we would be very interested in hearing about them at one of our monthly meetings. We usually have 10-15 people attending. Please email directly to giydundrum:gmail.com thanks Patricia
GIY Meeting : Saturday 12th October
at 10.30 in Airfield.
This month we have a fascinating talk by Niall McCoitir entitled “Irish Wild Plants and Herbs in Folklore”
Niall Mac Coitir grew up in a bilingual environment in Dublin with a love of Irish history, culture and nature instilled into him. After graduating from University College Dublin with a degree in Social Science, he worked for Dublin County Council and now works for Fingal County Council. He has written four books in the Myths, Legends and Folklore series: Ireland’s Trees (2003), Ireland’s Wild Plants (2006), Ireland's Animals (2010) and Ireland's Birds (2015).
As this is a professional presentation, we would appreciate any small contributions towards Niall’s fee.
We will meet as usual at the entrance to Airfield at 10.30.
Looking forward to seeing you.
With best wishes

We also have some information to share on green manures and can discuss our experiences using these. We might finish with a stroll through the Airfield kitchen gardens.
We will meet as usual at the entrance to Airfield at 10.30.

Patsy is a very experienced bee keeper and has given us very informative and engaging talks in the past about the importance of bees for our gardens and about the art of beekeeping. I am sure it is a talk we will all enjoy.

GIY Dundrum will be meeting on Saturday February 10th at 10.30 in Airfield House. This month we will have a short talk from Scott Bryan from Community Roots which connects garden owners with garden-less budding growers living nearby and looking for a patch to grow their own food. It sounds like a great idea and they have a lovely website that is worth checking out. We will also be discussing our vegetable growing plans for the year and if you have an seeds to swop please bring them along. Looking forward to seeing you then.
