Welcome to Sick of Plastic! It was formed in 2018 by Friends of the Earth and VOICE Ireland to empower communities to take action on single use plastics.
Personal change makes a lot of difference, but it's system change that we really need. We need to put pressure on supermarkets and decision makers to eliminate unecessary plastic.
So, Sick of Plastic wants 4 things.
1. Supermarkets to reduce plastic packaging.
2. A deposit and return scheme for plastic bottles and aluminium cans, nationwide.
3. A tax on single use coffee cups and the promotion of reuse.
4. Ban single use plastics, like straws and cutlery.
Despite introducing the plastic bag tax back in 2002, we’re taking more plastic packaging home (in our reusable shopping bags) than ever! Let's change that.

We have 5 simple steps to how Aldi might introduce this area to Dunshaughlin. Here's a letter format which includes those 5 steps, and a message to Aldi. Feel free to use this in your email! Of course adding your own bits if you have more to say than what's there.
Starting this week, Trim's zero waste shop Cult:Zero have agreed to organise cluster deliveries to Dunshaughlin. They'll collect our empty containers and bring them back full. Let us know if you'd like a product list or the drop-off address for containers!
To celebrate Earth Day despite the current lockdown, we've decided to host a virtual screening of the new documentary 'The Story of Plastic'.
It looks pretty good!
You can join the screening by booking a spot on eventbrite here:
Here's the letter we sent to Aldi management in Feb 2020. We're making the same demands as Sick of Plastic nationwide, and asking Aldi to bring a little something extra to Dunshaughlin.
