Summer update on the Allotment Society:
Hi everyone - the group has gotten off to a great start this summer. We have had four events so far:
- Our kickoff meeting where we discussed the goals of the organisation
- A work party at Kilcoole Primary School where we renovated some raised beds and handed them over to Society members to tend
- A barbeque where we toured a smallholding and learned more about growing food
- A work party to renovate a member's garden and start building a raised bed
Thank you to everyone who has participated so far and shared their time and talents with the group! We are taking a break in August but will resume our monthly activities in September.
We continue to work on our main goal of finding land for allotments in Kilcoole. We have spoken to some of the county councillors and will continue to work with them to try and identify appropriate sites. We have also made progress on raising funds and are now in a position to buy land should it become available. If you have any leads in this regards, please let us know!
Finally - we have started work on registering the Society as a charitable organisation with the Charities Regulator of Ireland. As part of this work we are drafting our constitution and organising a committee. If you would be interested in serving on the committee, please reach out to us.
Hope you are all having a great summer!
