I'm not working remotely yet but I'm working towards it. I have work in tech and found Grow Remote through LinkedIn. Looking forward to getting to know you all.
I've been trying to put together a spreadsheet of Irish counties and their suitability for remote workers. So far I've links to the national broadband plan maps and that's about it.
What else should I include? I'm thinking:
- public transport hubs such as bus stations, train stations, routes to major cities
- access to the motorway network
- schools, for those of us who are parents
- average cost of a house, both purchase and rental price

Hi Breanndan, Tracy Keogh from Grow Remote is already contributing to the spreadsheet. Good idea for the meet up, I don't know if I can attend as I'm not remote working *yet*.
Phil, thanks for putting together a sheet. I'll check with Grow Remote Ireland on what they have that may have to complement this info. I'm still getting to grips with new group, but am working on first meetup. I'm provisionally thinking of having a meeting here (The Mill Drogheda) from 1 to 2pm on Tuesday Dec' 4th. I'd offer free hotdesks for the day to attendees as I know it can be hard to get away from remote desk for a one hour meeting. I'm thinking of speaker from a company that hires remotely, plus few contributions from remote workers, and a conversation around what members want over 2019.
Hi Phil I worked remotely and in offices depending on the client for the past seven years. Here are my thoughts.. One problem I have is electricity I am based in Cork and because of storms and unplanned outages it was down for about 15 days a year. I ended up buying a generator and used that when I had no electricity. As for schools it is difficult to get a good one, but the best thing is to use the local knowledge and talk to other parents. Broadband is another issue, I get by with no major issues but neighbours and friends who are trying to start up businesses are suffering badly. But the biggest issue is getting employers/clients on board. They have an issue where they think if you are not in an office then you are not working. The government needs to allow an allowance for remote workers, a proper one. 200K more remote workers mean 200k less people on the roads.
