Progress report - after mapping out centre grounds we planted pollinator friendly flowers and bulbs using the guidelines 'all Ireland Pollinator Plan' and 'Gardening for Biodiversity'
We hope to create another planting area for herbs and more pollinator friendly plants. Thank you ChangeX
We aim to use the resources in the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan that offer students a constructive way to help the planet and ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and learn about growing and gardening.
To raise awareness of Biodiversity and to enable students to help our pollinating insects that are struggling to find food and are declining in numbers. Students can learn about our pollinators, why they’re important, and what they need to survive
Seed funding will be used for materials for the following actions:
Map existing school grounds
Identify areas where we can take action
Survey for existing pollinators
Survey for pollinator friendly plants
Use the National Biodiversity Data Centre App to record findings
Build raised beds that will include native species
Learn about growing plants from seed and gardening
Include some signage re pollinators/plants using the All-Ireland Pollinator Action Plan resources
Install a waterbutt or pond
Insect hotel
Small bird house/bath
(We will be following current Covid Guidelines at all times)
