Hi Everyone!
My name is Eamon Kennedy and I'm from Co. Tipperary, I am currently writing my master thesis at Radboud University in the Netherlands. I’m writing it on how trust, communication and control affected the performance of remote workers in Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic. To complete this thesis, I need to conduct interviews with different people who worked remotely during the pandemic. I am therefore wondering if any of you would be available around the end of May for about a 30/35 minute interview via Skype or by phone.
Seeing as I am based in the Netherlands it is difficult to find people working in Ireland to interview so it would be greatly greatly appreciated. My email is [email protected] and my mobile is +353872437033 if you wish to get in touch. otherwise if you know anyone that would be able to help me please let me know (whether it is an individual or an organisation).
Thanks a mill in advance!
Eamon

Meet up 1 of 3 summary:
Lovely to reacquaint with previous connections and meet with new folks too.
We had an enjoyable conversation covering topics such as the hub network in Galway (building out a graphic for the group for next session), the 'pledge to flex' from companies but discussed what that means in practice and the challenges around equity and fairness to opportunities etc., aswell as the investment in real estate and potential competitive advantage erosion in cases where companies opt out of remote, hybrid or flexible working.
After the forced remote crises situation over the last 12-18 months, companies have the opportunity to implement best practice in ways of working model with thought and strategic planning and without the knee-jerk reaction that they were bounced into.
But will the executive teams take up that opportunity or will there be a rush to get back to where we were. Well in truth, we will never get back to where we are because the world has changed but what that really means is people have changed and are more thoughtful about the kind or lifestyle they want and what is important to them.
In a US article dated 14th June, we can see this in action. https://www.axios.com/resignations-companies-e279fcfc... - Surveys show anywhere from 25% to upwards of 40% of workers are thinking about quitting their jobs.
We are on a continuum of growth and comfortable as it is to go back to what we know best, if we do not embrace this opportunity for change, we risk losing talent in addition to negatively impacting the environment with commute and the stress levels and allied health of our each other.
From speaking to people over the last number of months, there was a point where our lives had become so complex and so busy, our logistic skills balancing everything, commute, work, school, study, community, exercise, home cooking, walking the dog and having time for yourself, the intensity of it all, almost came to breaking point and this was not just one person's experience, it was amplified across the nation and the world.
Funny enough I actually wrote a poem about it some time before the pandemic as a way of expressing it (I will see if I can find it).
We also talked about training and gave the link to a free training course on the Grow Remote website. This training was developed by Tracy Keogh co-founder Grow Remote and is accessible to all.
Here is the link: https://grow-remote-learning-hub.thinkific.com/.../how-to....
We also had a good discussion about sharing and interacting more between the East Galway, wider Galway and maybe Roscommon chapters so we share a bit more within our regional area and help get our messages and support further to the area.
In addition, there is the wider Grow Remote Community and all are welcome to join the slack channel, sign up here: https://growremote.ie/
Looking forward to our next meet up, meeting 2 of 3 onTuesday, 29 June 2021 12:00
