The multi-year school gardening project involved planting perennial vegetables, fruits and berries in the outdoor environments of schools and preschools. The gardens provide a school environment with an increased diversity of edibles that also benefit pollinators and beneficial animals. Children get acquainted with new plants and get the opportunity to try new flavors such as love herb, Spanish chervil and chives. The project provides teachers with personal knowledge and inspiration to bring these plants into the educational activities to highlight many important connections such as ecological literacy, biodiversity, carbon storage, food resilience, cycles, microlife in the soil, and pollinators.
