Amazing feedback from all the people in the area!
Our art mural Wall have now been up three weeks, in the central town square of Brynäs, in the city of Gävle, Sweden.
Funding made it possible for us to buy wood boards and timber frame for a Wall 2,5 meter high and 7,2 meter long. We enlisted a local carpenter and some Young artists to build it in one day.
Paint was purchased for the funding from ChangeX and local artists could apply for a day in the schedule to paint a new mural. We did a simplified jury selection, divided paint for all selected painters. We asked artists of all types to make art posters, that We glued onto the back side of the wood boards as a ”paste-up-Wall”
At least 2 new murals of different art styles have been painted each week. In total We extimate that the funding have made it possible for 16 mural paintings, 80 art posters on the back side, and much more than 70 residents have been visiting and discussing local art and the local area with us during lovely afternoons and evenings.
After this first pilot test of six weeks, We apply for permit to keep the mural Wall up in same location until november. We Will search for local funding to be able to purchase more paint, to have available at this art Wall during summer varationsbredd months, We are in talks with real estate owner for possibly one or two more walls for murals in parks in other parts of our city,

In addition to the support and positivity We feel, We Will that We have made persons of all ages a little bit happier, little more creative and raised the general awareness about our part of the city. Local and regional TV and Radio stations have visited and did great reportage about Mural project. Internationally We have gained attention and many thousands of Lokes and comments on our instagram account. It seems like this Wall is the most northern Paste-up-Wall and art Wall of the world.

Our original plan was to have the final day of this Mural Wall as one part of a local, yearly festival, june 8th-9th. the last part of the funding will be spent on several adult artists as mentors and tutors for making the Wall ”open” to all teenagers and senior citizens that want to try, and give the last remaining spray paint to them as a Grand finale. Although if We receive permit to keep the Wall , We Will save the teenagers painting on the Wall for st least a week, and then declare it as an official ’legal graffiti Wall’ for the local community for free.

Konst-väggen byggdes och flertalet konstnärer har redan målat på den i en stafett som pågår fram till Brynäsdagen 8/6. Om det finns intresserade den dagen blir det en workshop både på papper och på väggen.

Färg är inköpt. Trä till bygget köps i helgen, förhoppningsvis går det att bygga färdigt graffitiväggen på söndag eftermiddag.

On the side of the mural painting that is facing towards the town square, it Will be graffiti paintings.
On the other side, We Will paste other forms of street art: wheat pastes or paste-ups.

Permit to build our graffiti Wall are ready!
We can have our project as planned, from now until 9th of june.

Vi har tilldelats startpott på 35.000:-kr för projektet, så nu kollar jag och Joel upp exakta, detaljerade kostnader för det som behövs köpas in.

Team meeting with the board of our art association.

Ella, Maria, Ann-So, Britt and Johan plan to do this project with Joel and Johan as he artists. Graffiti artist, Joel was unavailable, due to him working nights.

Action plan:

Timeline: planning started in december. Meetings with the whole team Will be online, every 6-7 weeks. Weather forecasts Will be monitored, for april, it Will have to be at least 10 degrees and No strong wind or rain to be able to paint. The first available saturday Will be first painting day.

key dates: 

open discussion meetings with local residents in the area are on sundays, every sunday for two months. Johan and Joel will do sketches together with some teenagers of their ideas on sundays in april.

Application for permit to paint on the town square Will be sent to police and local council beginning of march.

final date: 8th of june is a day of a local festival. We Will have at least three large canvas ready, and if weather and budget allows, also have demo painting on that fest.

2 ready canvases will be displayed in shop window at Kulturum - social centre until end of August.

Budget: largest cost Will be spray cans w paint, 2-5 canvases, tarpaulins to protect the ground, and to construct a temporary Wood structure to hang canvases on while painting outside, plus fee for the artist, Joel. If costs Will be higher than the 35.000, our art association can cover expenses, until the final portion of the Grant.

joel and Johan Will search for detailed costs for paint and necessities and report to the board.

Impact: the area is growing with lots of new construction of residential tall buildings, what do people thing about their city growing fast from small town into much larger city? Who Will be their neighbours in these skyscrapers? Do We know our oldest living neighbours? Are the oldest swedish residents much different, or very similar to refugees that immigrated?

the project Will try to collect texts from the local residents stories and ideas and visions, to collect in small printed mini magazines "Zines", and distribute those for free in the festival in june, to try to make discussions wider and ongoing between more people.

Location: the large section of city Gävle that is "Brynäs". Application for permit to use the town square Will be sent in march, to both local city council and police. We have alternate places outside city center, in a Forest park, if permit is denied.
