Hi GIYers
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 24th September, 6.00- 7.30 - our annual crop swap and general catch up. Venue - Central Buildings.
We are looking for new members to join our Steering Committee - we meet twice a year face to face and otherwise organise events/meetings via our whatsapp group. Would you like to be part of this committee, help organise a calendar of talks/outings for the year? Please get in contact via changex or text.
Some of you might be interested the Natural Growing Company; they are a bit far away for a visit (Bantry) but come to the Milk Market a few times a year; see schedule, attached; next Limerick dates: 1st & 15th June and 13th July. They do a good range of veg. seedlings, some potted i.e. bigger than a seed tray, aimed at patio only gardeners. A bit dearer and a good bit better than the competition.
GiY meeting in Central Buldings, 51 O’Connell Street this Tuesday, 30th April from 6-730pm. Guest Speaker is
Pete Beaumont,Environmentalist and Willow Weaver will give a talk on tried and tested sowing practices for veggie seed production,seed stratification on our native tree species and lots of Q & A. Entry Fee €2 per head. This talk is open to the public. Tea and coffee available.

Saturday,June 22nd 2019,3pm. Barbecue at Kathy and Kevin Wallace,GIY members.This is the highlight of our social calendar with a poly tunnel,hens and creative growing to view.The number is capped at 20 so please book early.
Visit to Sli Eile, Burton Park, Churchtown, Mallow. Saturday, 25th May. This 50 acre farm showcases veg, fruit and flowers, focuses on biodiversity and supports clients with mental health issues. A Saturday visit would include their weekly market with cafe facilities available.A tour also an option. No charge but donation is an option, they would welcome the opportunity to raise awareness about their work.

Birr Castle,Birr, Co.Offaly, Saturday, July 20th. For a guided tour of the Gardens, the Science Centre and 5 rooms of the castle it’s €21 per
person.Tour starts at 11:30.
For a Group General Admission Self-Guided, for 6-14 people, the fee is €8 per person.This consists of
the Science Centre, the Great Telescope and 120 acres.Visitor guides will be given on arrival
including some information on the newly I-LOFAR radio telescope.
For a group General Admission with Guided Tour for 6-14 people €8 per pp plus €25 charge per
group for Tour Guide.This is a 90 minute guided tour of the historic Science Centre, the Great
Telescope and 120 acres of award -winning gardens.There is no access inside the castle with this
tour.
The Castle tour alone is 45 minute guided tour of the main reception rooms of Birr Castle.You will
have full access to the Science Centre, the Great Telescope and the 120 acres of garden.
There is a Courtyard Café but details of menu will be put on Change X closer to the date.

Next GIY meeting is Tues Feb 26th from 6-7.30pm at Central Buildings, Community Rm First Floor, 51 O’Connell St Limerick. Guest Speaker is Catherine Caulwell, Tutor in An tIonad Glas who specializes in Permaculture, Beekeeping and Sustainable Horticulture. She will be talking on Green Manures and Soil Microbiome to link into biological farming info which she has. All are welcome.€6 per person.
