GIY Dundrum will be meeting in Airfield House at 10.30 on Saturday June 11th (apologies for the short notice). We will meet at the main entrance just before 10.30 and then all go in together. This month we will be having a plant swop, so if you have any spare seedlings or seeks please bring them along. If you would like to share images of your veg plot then please send them to [email protected] before 9 on Saturday morning. Pictures can be a good way to illustrate problems (or successes) in your garden!
See you tomorrow! New members particularly welcome!
Hi everyone. The next GIY Dundrum meeting is on Saturday March 12th in Airfield House at 10.30. We will have a talk by Colm O'Driscoll, who is the head gardener in Airfield. His talk is entitled: Grow Soil, Harvest Food
In this talk Colm will discuss vegetable production with a focus on working with the soil biology to produce healthy soil which translates to healthy vegetables. Learn how to reduce your inputs, cut your labour and reap the reward of a more environmentally sustainable method of growing vegetables. The talk will also discuss the evolution of the food garden in Airfield Estate and will include variety recommendations of some of the tastiest vegetables he has grow.
We are paying a fee for this talk so we would ask that those of you who can afford it would make a contribution on the day.
We will meet by the ticket desk at the entrance at 10.30 and go to the Education Cabins from there so that no one gets lost! It would be very helpful if you would let us know if you plan to attend so that we have a sense of the numbers attending.
Hi everyone - our GIY monthly meeting on Saturday February 12th 2022 will be first one indoors in Airfield for two years!! If you would like to come along and tell us about your plans for your garden this spring please join us. You can also bring along any spare seeds/seedling to swop.

Hi everyone - our GIY monthly meeting on Saturday October 9th will be a foraging walk around the Airfield Estate. We will be led by a member of Airfield staff and when we arranged these walks before they were very interesting and enjoyable!
We will start at the usual time -10.30am and we will meet near the ticket sales booth. Because we will have the services of a member of Airfield Staff there will be a charge of €15 for attending. Please email [email protected] if you would like to attend.
Hi everyone - our GIY monthly meeting on September 11th will feature a talk by Patrick Hunt on growing a wildflower meadow. Patrick has spoken to our group before and is a really wonderful speaker and very talented gardener and biodiversity specialist. You can read more about his work on his website patrickhuntgardening.com.
We will start at the usual time -10.30am but our venue has changed for this meeting only. We will be in room AGR 1.19 in the Agriculture and Food Science Building in UCD Belfield. A member of the committee will be at the entrance of the building to show everyone where to go. We will only be able to accommodate 20 people so please email [email protected] if you would like to go by 1pm on Friday 10th. We will send a map and full directions in reply to your email.
Patrick will have packets of his own yellow rattle seeds for sale on the day.
Hi everyone - our GIY monthly meeting for August will take place on Saturday 14th at 10.30am in Airfield House - we won't have access to a room but we will be able to walk the grounds together and catch up on our gardening news. Unfortunately numbers will be limited so please email [email protected] by 1pm on Friday 13th if you are interested in attending. We will need your full name and a phone number as these need to be supplied to Airfield. This time we will also be sending you a link to a form that Airfield has asked everyone to fill in. Also please note that Airfield has asked that we don't park in their car park (there are plenty nearby). Looking forward to seeing you all then.
