What a great start today. We had the planting area surveyed and plans to bush hog are in the works. From there local students will take over for a bit. We plan on the soil being tested so AG students can work the land and begin planting. While most of our funds are going towards trees, shrubs, and flowers we are also working on plans for a pond and irrigation.
Denise Barksdale from our local Farmers Market in Halifax came and we discussed how to involve the community further with this project. Megan Throckmorton who will be overseeing some of the students also manages a local farmers market that we hope to “bee” a part of as well.
Today we looked into various plants, trees, and shrubs that will be grown for the pollinators. We are looking into bat and bee houses currently to also add to the project. All participants in our group have been super supportive and we can’t wait to get started.
