We are a local voluntary group working in Enniscorthy to become an exemplar sustainable town, a town that is working together to become an even better place to live, work and visit. We hope to recognise all the great things about our town and to help drive positive change. Highlighting the importance of the Slaney for our town and advocating for excellent water quality is one of our group's priorities. Find out more at https://www.sustainableenniscorthy.com/
We recently took part in a FreshWater project to check water quality along the Slaney. We are now starting a project with Enniscorthy Tidy Towns to help conserve water in the town so we can reduce the risk of flooding.

2 samples today good status even after all the rain!
World WaterBlitz is starting today!
Freshwater.org are encouraging all existing groups around the world to take part in the World WaterBlitz event, starting today until 18 September. The aim is to collect as much water quality data as possible across multiple countries.
They are interested in comparing the freshwater health in different locations, celebrating the cleanest waterbodies, and identifying any pollution hotspots.
You can share your experience of water testing on social media by posting @Earthwatch_Eur using the hashtag #WaterBlitz.
Hi all I have collected 12 samples from 5 locations. My favourite location is Borodale but I must get the numbers up at the other spots! Hoping to do more sampling now in winter to see if any difference. The app is very handy
We are delighted how well this project is doing so far, although the sampling numbers aren't huge it has generated a lot of interest in the area about our water quality. We have linked in with LAWPRO on the Slaney River Catchment plans, helped another community group to carry out some testing and heard from Eanna Ni Lamhna on the importance of water quality for biodiversity. We are also linking in with our GreenPlan Project to do a kayak and clean on the Slaney and hope to get some testing done during that too!!
We're looking forward to finishing up the testing and having some more talks in the coming months!
Hi All,
we only seem to have 28 data points recorded, can you make sure to use the app when you are uploading the test results etc. Here is the map of our samples to date! Great work all, we just need another good push on samples in the coming month!!
Hi all meeting Fergal a journalist tomorrow who heard about our Fresh Water watch project ! Hoping to sample too!
Hi all samples the Kilgibbon Stream and Borodale today. Both were V good ecological status. Fergal is covering water quality and is going to let us know when article is published!
First test completed today on Augh Stream beside Pullinstown.
Good man Cathal! Hope all is well
Welcome Cathal!!
We have more sampling kits available for anyone interested in taking part. Just email [email protected] and we can arrange collection.
Don't forget to join up and log your details on the Freshwater platform
Here is a map of the results so far and the overall sample quality data!! Well done to all our samplers!!
Tested a little stream near our home. Phosphates 0.2, Nitrates 2
Will revisit it again this week!
2 sites this morning including 1 new site at Edermine. (Low tide)
Noticeable difference in water quality for N. Borodale not as good. And again full of litter
Hi all I sampled the Kilgibbon stream which runs very close to my house (And other houses) this evening. Moderate status. A lot going on at this small stream. I suspect septic tanks, agri and roads.

Tested again tonight after a 5 week break! Noticeable increase in the growth by the bank of the stream compared to last photo & test on 7 May. Water test results the same N=1, P =<0.02. “Your dataset indicates that this waterbody has a very good ecological status” 😊
