Woo hoo - the second chunk of funding has come through! Now all we need is the reconditioned commercial fridge and freezer to turn up and we are rolling!
Shall I start publicing (and asking for volunteers) on Tenby and Tenby together FB pages now, or wait a few days to iron out problems?
We are open!
If anyone would like to be on the volunteer rota, please get in touch on here and Kath or I will get back to you!
This is the link for all the forms and things that hubbub supplies us with as members of the community fridge network.

We are opening on Tuesday October 12th. There are a couple of gaps on the rota if anyone is able to help out... please let us know on here - Kath is organising the rota.
Ok, the bad news is that we didn't get the grant, the good news is that we can now open whenever we want.
I can meet on wednesday morning this week, is that ok for anyone?
We could meet in the Old Chapel and decide what needs doing and when to open. We could also have a conversation on here and on the whats app group so everyone can be involved.
Sorry but im going to have to withdraw from my commitment to do fridays, im afraid my arthritus has flared up so my right hand has almost no function , added to my exisiting mobility issues i really cant be sure i'll be capable. i really want to support this project, i can do online things nd maybe could be stand in occasionally?
So sorry to hear that Mel. I hope that your condition settles down soon and don't worry about any of it. When we eventually have a meeting, I'm sure we'll find that lots of things have changed for people and there'll need to be some re-arranging. All support is going to be welcome.
Sorry everyone, we should hear about the grant soon... then we can have a meeting to plan the next steps and go over everything we decided on all those months ago!!
With the covid restrictions lifting soon and the delayed opening , what does everyone think about meeting up in person ? Personally i dont know anyone and i also feel the delay and possible grant gives us an opportunity to plan the opening a bit more....
Sorry about my non involvement of late. Its been one family situation after another , compounded by the dying of my computer, 2 weeks ago, currently awaiting a new hard drive.
I dont have access to any of my documents so would appreciate a copy of the rota that I wrote if anyone could email it to me.
I left the laminated insurance documents at the church today, on thechiller with the heavy duty magnets as I'd forgotten blu tac or sello.
Here is a copy of the letter that we can give out to any local business that may have food for the Fridge:
Dear Manager
Tenby Community Fridge
The Tenby Community Fridge is going to open on August 10th, and we'd love {Insert business name} to support it.
The aim of the fridge is to fight food waste and support local people. It does this by collecting together leftover food from businesses, then making it available to local residents and community groups. This includes individuals with limited access to affordable fresh and nutritious food.
The Community Fridge is housed in The Old Chapel, Lower Frog St and accessible from Lower Frog St. It is open between Tuesday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Strict monitoring guidelines based on advice from the Food Standards Agency and the Council’s Environmental Health team ensure the fridge operates to the highest quality standards.
Benefits to {Insert business name here}:
- A free service which gathers together food that would otherwise be thrown away, helping (Insert business name} become a zero waste business.
- An opportunity for {Insert business name} to contribute positive social impact; supporting the local community, in particularly individuals who are in financial hardship.
- The chance to be credited as a business champion in the Community Fridge’s promotional materials, online pages and press.
We’d love to discuss how the Community Fridge could benefit your business, if you’re happy to discuss please let us know some possible dates and times.
Likewise let us know if you have any other questions or would like to discuss further.
Best wishes
Tenby Community Fridge
And now we need to adjust the opening date - I put Sep 21st in my grant application as the hubbub chap said something like it should all be done by the 18th!...
how's that?
Ah yes, we better change that bit too! We definitely want people to drop round food themselves!
Good news - the Old Chapel has now been given permission to open so they are planning on opening on the 3rd August. All being well, we should be able to open on the 10th August!
Can everyone confirm that they are still able to do their shift in the rota please?
Hi, when you do open, what are the 'best before' date rules regarding donating/providing ambient food products that are over their 'best before' dates? I.e can businesses pass on sealed cake/nuts etc to you/users that are close to/over 'best before' (not 'use by') dates?
Yes, we can have things that are past their best before dates and it is up to us and people taking food to decide when it actually needs to be thrown. Anything with a use by date needs 24 hours on it to give us chance to have someone come by and pick it up with time to use it in.
Still waiting for the Community Cafe to be given permission by the County Council Planning Department to open - very frustrating!
Anne, the planning department appear to be even worse/slower than usual. I would recommend dropping a line to others in the CC eg the CEO, citing tha this is a great community initiative that merely needs very simple signing off. Otherwise I would be utterly unsurprised if the planning ‘tick box’ does not happen for months yet. If the dept gets a push from on high it should happen speedily….
