Has anyone tried to grow vegetables in winter using straw bales to insulate them? With a glass door or windows on top to get as much warmth from the sun as possible.
It is something I would like to try so if anyone has any tips or experience please let me know. Including what vegetables I should try!
Thanks,
Geraldine
Our monthly October meeting will be online via Zoom (October 10th, 10.30am). The idea is to share our experiences of vegetable/fruit growing successes and failures so that we can learn from one another's experiences. If you would like to take part in the meeting please email: [email protected] to confirm your interest and you will be sent a link before the meeting. If you have any photos of your vegetables or fruit that you would be willing to share with the group please send them too and we can show them during the meeting. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

The next meeting of GIY Dundrum will take place on Saturday September 12th at 10.30 in Airfield. We are very lucky to have a guided tour of the Estate by the Head Gardener, Colm O’Driscoll. This is a tremendous opportunity to get an insight into the workings of the garden and Colm has particular expertise in soil health and you may have heard him speak about this on Diarmuid Gavin’s programme Gardening Together. There is a small charge of €5 for the tour.
There is space for 14 people on the tour. Please email GIYDundrum@gmail if you are interested in attending. The first 14 to get in touch will be sent details of how to book a place. We need to notify Airfield in advance of everyone who will be attending so booking ahead is essential.
Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday
Did this event go ahead? I sent an email yesterday evening but it may have been too late. Clare
GIY Dundrum is delighted to tell you all that our usual monthly meetings will be starting again on August 8th (next Saturday) at 10.30 in Airfield House in Dundrum. This will be a 'walking meeting' as Airfield are not yet in a position to give us a room. We have only a limited number of places and we need contact details for everyone who attends (for contact tracing). Because of this we have setup a ticket system on Eventbrite. Please use this link to book:
We will meet at the ticket desk at 10.30 and go from there
