Here at our Come-Unity Joy Garden prepping for Saturday's building of tables and benches and this Queen Mother in her usual Senior Royalty Swag dropped in to harvest tomatoes for a BLT sandwich; after purchasing a tomato from the store and tasting, she threw it away.

There IS a distinct difference between food organically grown and that which is mass corporate sponsored GMO produced.

Gardens are a lifeline to Community transformation, establishing authentic homegrown (down to Earth) connections our communities are what Black community are known for. Here's where we reach deep, cultivate and inspire hope in Black communities targeted for genocide and where food is weaponized. Stories are shared and lives changed. Sometimes people just need a little reminder of their best self. We all do.🥰

This handsome gentleman was passing through, an unsavory incident sparked our exchange then viola a conversation sparked about voLOVEteering in our Come-Unity Joy Garden. And since I was in my own garden why not harvest here first. The vibe changed, "You want some tomatoes and turnips?" Then chard and a beautiful pepper. He's going to make salsa😋

All this. Right in our own backyards. No chemicals. No pesticides annnnnnd he's the father of one of my favorite lil humans coincidentally. His son will grow to be as beautiful as his father. Who's also a chef! What a day...💞🖤💞

"To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. I saw that Pearl Ramsey had a community garden. I planted some of my own tomato plants in my window. I do not know if they are going to survive in the winter but if my house stay warm maybe they will. I hope and pray that my little garden will make it. Here are some pictures of healthy flowers in my neighborhood. They are perennials flowering plants. They grow every year. I wish their was more beautiful flowers, vegetables and plants in our neighborhood."

From a distance on our bike ride, "Auntie Pearl, don't we know her?"

Our Community Treasure was making her way home with a box of goods from the nearby church. We stopped and I took the box. We walked her home, talked and laughed at cute anecdotes. She was taking her time and now so were we. Walking a lot more slowly because her presence reminded us to.

Come-Unity makes a lot more sense when the elder walking down the street has a name that you know. And she gardens with us.
