River Cleanup is a community initiative aiming to clean and maintain rivers across the US. A group of volunteers work together, collaborate with community stakeholders and sponsors to clean up a local river.
Why it matters
Cleaning a river helps solve the problem that millions of tons of trash cause every year. Trash is more than just an eyesore, it contaminates our drinking water and threatens the lives of all people, wildlife, and communities who depend on clean water. It is also a great way to meet your neighbors and get some fresh air.
What you can do
You can apply for funding to run a river cleanup in your local community. Once you're ready to go fill in this short form, complete the 30 Day Challenge and we'll make sure you have everything you need to get started.

This funding was very helpful in providing our group of students with the safety and clean up gear needed for our first river clean up at the Verde River on December 7th, 2020. With the funding provided, we were able to purchase trash bag openers, safety vest and gloves, buckets, garbage bags, and more.
This has created a great impact on not only our community, but on our students as well. These students worked very hard to pick up even the smallest of pieces of litter. They learned first hand how a river clean up not only is taking pride in where they live, but an opportunity to leave a special place, better than it was when they got there. This project allowed for students to help create healthier and cleaner rivers for the plants and animal life to thrive in.
Students had such a fun time with this experience and felt very accomplished with this project. We are excited to receive the rest of our funding and do another awesome river clean up! Thank you ChangeX for this opportunity!
Our impacts will be field trips during the day. Our first one will be December 7th for the Verde River and we will do the Salt River on January 7th. We will use our funding to buy gloves, safety vest, garbage bags, and more. We will make sure to keep our green team members safe by having them all wear mask and maintaining 6 feet apart. Parents and teachers will provide transportation for the project as well. We are really excited to help clean up some of the best places in our community and make them healthier all around for the environment and the animals that live there!
