“Was it for this the Wild Geese spread the grey wing on every tide?”
Welcome to the Grow Remote and the Wild Geese chapter! This group was set up on November 4, 2018 and is run by volunteers and mystic gladiators . We are keen to build a thriving community of remote workers in and around Lough Derg. Our HQ is based in Portumna, Co. Galway. However, our community has no boundaries, borders or frontiers.
Not everyone leaves or should feel the need to leave their home to find an opportunity to work. Lough Derg and environs is a treasure chest of highly skilled and educated people working or not working. The aim of this group is not only to raise awareness of the opportunities of working remotely but to build a community where you can work remotely together and look for support on your journey.
According to this Remote How Survey, 62% of people don’t work remotely because they don’t know where to start. We want to change that for our 200,000+ remote workers and those who would like to convert to remote working.
Who is the Wild Geese for?
Regardless of your industry, background or whether you're working remotely full time, we are keen to have you on board. This is an opportunity for:
Remote Workers
Traditional Workers who would like to try out Remote Work
Our Diaspora - who are looking for an opportunity to return home
Parents of our Diaspora who would like to learn more!
The Curious - those of you who have not heard about remote work
The Homemakers - those of you who paused your working life to nurture our young geese
Become one of Wild Geese first members and be the first to share in its vision, and support the work of its volunteers.
Grow Remote hope to reinvent how people work, share knowledge, tell stories, and inspire more people to experience this way of life.
A note from the founder of Grow Remote
Welcome to Grow Remote on ChangeX! We're building a national movement to connect remote workers in Ireland. We believe we’re in the middle of a seismic change in ways of working that opens up a whole new opportunity for a better quality of life, for remote workers and for rural Ireland. We'll help you do this in your local community by starting a Grow Remote Chapter.

A new Digital Hub was launched in Tipperary Town to cater for remote working and start up businesses. Developed by Jobs4Tipp at the Tipperary Technology Park, Tipperary Town, it offers full services desk spaces with modern office facilities including high speed broadband connectivity and printing.
With many companies now allowing employees work close to their home rather than commuting long distances, the Hub is ideally set up to cater for this cohort of workers in the vicinity of Tipperary town.

Thank you to everyone from Grow Remote who came to our event at hosted by Deputy Anne Rabbitte at Portumna Castle on Saturday to announce details of an innovative new digital app imagined, designed and created by Boon Digital Agency in Galway city. The app is already live in 7 towns in Ireland and the Galway city app will go live this week.
The Apps make it easier for locals and tourists alike to discover what is happening in their locality. Find attractions, great spots to eat and stay, find out what’s happening and interact with your town like never before. Accommodation, Food & Drink, Lifestyle, Shopping, Lodging, Attractions, Offers, Events, Self-Guided Tours, Hikes & Trails, Seated Ticketing, Payment Integration and Active Retirement.
Deputy Rabbitte outlined her vision for the app to both promote and connect the towns and surrounding areas in East Galway, namely Portumna, Loughrea, Ballinasloe, Gort, Athenry and Tuam. She called for a formal expressions of interest from each town which will form part of the existing application already submitted to Galway Rural Development for Leader Funding.
Present at the meeting from the East Galway towns included Jim McClearn, Cathaoirleach, Councillor Ivan Canning, Councillor Shelley Herterich Quinn, Councillor Martina Kinane, and Councillor Joe Sheridan.
If you would like to learn more about the development of the East Galway app, please send an email to [email protected] and she will send you a digital information pack.
Alternatively, you can go to https://www.facebook.com/annerabbitteTD/ where I will be posting regular news on the roll out of this exciting East Galway digital renewal. We are also creating a Landing Page which will be regularly updated as the project progresses.
"Its today, Its today, Its today" - the above words just slipped out of my subconscious! I am trying to recall the movie they came from, and I think it was one of the Stuart Little movies! I just love the subconscious and deep dark recesses of the mind. Just a gentle reminder that our event down at the castle takes place this morning at 11.00am.
Directions: when you enter the main castle gates, do not turn right to the Castle, but continue along the road until you come to the Friary on your right. You will see a sign for Ca to Ca Tearooms. There is not a lot of parking so you may be better off parking at the castle and walking to tearooms or parking up town. Looking forward to meeting you all there. Will report back here on the outcomes of the event.
Calling all developers and engineers in Wild Geese looking to get experience in technical interviews, anonymously and with actionable feedback, fascinating new company worth consideration:
"Warm up with anonymous mock interviews. Book free interviews with senior engineers who’ll run you through hyperrealistic technical interviews and give you actionable feedback. They won’t know anything about you and are just there to help you get better.
Practice interviewers come from Google, Facebook, Airbnb, Dropbox, AWS, Microsoft, and more. Watch some recordings of past interviews"
Over the course of the last year or so, Google started adding more job search features to its search engine. Today, it’s expanding this program by also making it easier to find work-from-home jobs.
Typically, when you search for a job like that, chances are you’ll be bombarded with a bunch of low-quality or even potentially malicious sites. Now, when you search for a job in Google Search using a query like “customer support jobs,” you’ll be able to set the location to “work from home” to find remote and telecommute jobs.
