Our student were attending 100% virtually when we began our Discover Program. Our students received some of our classroom building blocks to use at home, as supply at Lego was not available. My students planned and problem solved ways of creating their ideas using the building blocks. They also used video to describe their construction models. While at home, we invited parents to be part of the our program. As parents, they actively listed and encouraged their child to talk about what they were doing while using the building blocks, overall supporting students ideas and interests.
This past school year, we introduced the building blocks in the classroom, in-person. Although we switch between virtual and in-person learning a number of times, students engaged in various skills while working with the building blocks. They problem-solved independently or with their peers. They supported each other and learned from each other while working on their models.
I am looking forward to finally being able to order the Lego Education STEAM Park Set and incorporating it in our preschool classroom.
