This unique gathering is designed to bring parents and children together to engage in play, conversation, and delicious food around the dinner table. As a meal campaign of the OpenSeat meal-hosting platform, this idea aims to foster meaningful connections between parents, caretakers and their children, strengthening family bonds and creating lasting memories. Mealtime can be more than just eating; it can be a time of creativity, discovery, education and most fundamentally social connection.
Using feast guidelines developed by the OpenSeat team, you are invited to host meals for parents and children — in which they eat, play, talk and learn together.

The pizza making went so well - the kids loved it and got fully stuck in! It was very interactive - the colouring pens helped keep them busy while waiting for the pizzas to cook. The parents got to also connect nicely so I think it was successful all round.
Event planned for 15 October so that the winter rain will hopefully be over. This will allow for an indoor/outdoor event.
4 September: Aim to launch the event and open it to sign-ups. Given that the target audience is families with children, more lead time is preferable.
18 Sep: Hopefully have final participant list. Order bowls and non perishables.
13 Oct: Order perishables.
15 Oct: Event.
Budget:
Pizza ingredients: R1000
Colourful bowls: R200
Drinks etc. 200
Impact:
The aims of the event are:
-to have 5 families with toddlers join.
- to provide an event which allows parents to connect with their children over food, while also providing the toddlers with an age appropriate activity that allows a tactile play experience, has elements of colour learning and is sensory (touch, smell, taste etc.)
- to have the parents connect with one another and hopefully build friendships which can continue after the event.
Location:
Residence of the host. The pizza-making will happen indoors and then the toddlers will also have access to the garden for some physical play time during the event.
