Our 2017 collaborative heritage project is a scale model build of " FORT PROTECTOR" a military outpost established in 1547 - 1548 as part of the suppression of the Gaelic Irish territories of the O'More and O'Connor clans which was to become Maryborough and finally in 1920 the town of Portlaoise. The original fort is of huge historical significance. This project follows our very successful collaborative 1916 centenary project called "FIRST SHOTS" which involved a full scale military re-enactment / pagent highlighting the fact that the first shot of the 1916 rising was fired by a Portlaoise Man - Paddy Ramsbottom.
