So our Milk Thistle has flowered. I like this plant possibly because its Latin name is Silybum and I think that's funny as well as that it is a vicious plant with very sharp spikes, it can be eaten (spikes removed) and has been used in various medicinal preps including one for a hangovers!
Here is an update on the spuds we planted. The blight resistant variety "Bionica" are on the left and were planted couple of days after the "Orla" variety
We planted some of the pots into the garden and a couple of sunflowers that the kids planted at the open day in Easter
Spuds are in and a the willow arch started off and a couple more pots on the fence

We launched our "Adopt A Pot" scheme today, where we ask people to adopt a pot for €10. We supply the pot and plant and hang it on the fence around the garden. We will also be adding their name, either the family or business or maybe even to remember someone special. We have had 7 local businesses sign up already which include: Along the Way Café, Goleen Take Away, Tim & Mary McCarthy Butchers, The Lobster Pot, O'Meara's Bar, O'Reilly Couriers and Neelog B&B, which is great news and we should have lots of lovely colour around the garden very soon. If you know of anyone who might like to Adopt A Pot just let me know, we may need to get some more pots at this rate!
Our central Celtic Design was cut out yesterday, many thanks to Mairaid for her help, hope you like?
A new bed and circular path have been added to the Community Garden, the potatoes have not gone in yet as the ground has been so hard and frosty. Plans for a central "Celtic Knot" bed have been made and will start this week. No Community garden session this Sunday.

Planted a couple of tyres today with gladioli, amber coloured like the colour of Mizen Rovers! Planted the middle tyre with Milk Thistle and Evening Primrose. Milk Thistle is used as a cure for hangovers! while Evening Primrose has many traditional uses
As part of National Tree Week we are inviting the Community Council to plant a native tree from each of the 8 areas. The tree planting will take place on Sunday 11th March at 2pm. The trees will be planted as part of our new boundary hedge in order to protect our new garden and to provide both shelter and in time food for our local birds. Please come along and help us celebrate the occasion.
