Our project has recruited 60 individuals and 2 businesses, to collect their yard waste and kitchen scraps for composting rather throwing them in the trash.
We currently have 5 community compost drop-off locations, where community members can drop off filled buckets of kitchen scraps.
We have made educational stickers to answer the question: "Can I compost this?" and distributed them with buckets that households could use to collect their compostable materials.
We have organized a community planting even where we beautified a local park by planting flowers and vegetables. Finished compost from our project was used to amend the soil during this event.
To date our project has diverted more than 3,000 lbs of waste from the landfill. We have averaged 1,000 lbs a month and we expect this number to grow as we continue to recruit households as we promote composting in our neighborhood.
The money we received thus far has been used to: purchase buckets for individual households, print promotional materials, and purchase compost bins and other supplies need for our community drop-off sites.
Additional funds will help to open more community drop off locations and to host another outreach/educational event.
Wonderful!! Hope you and your family are well :)
